Drained and recharged my DS about three times straight. I've almost beaten Phoenix Wright.
Is this a good thing?
Anyhow...allergies still haven't let up (was coughing all morning today, and still am...but thank God the coughing sorta slowed up at work, otherwise I'd probably sound like "COUGH would you COUGH like COUGH me to COUGH get you some COUGH-ee?").
And based on my current spate of Phoenix Wright obsession, I've been working on a little idea of mine - The Trial by Pink Floyd from their album The Wall, reenacted in the courtroom by - who else? - the cast of Phoenix Wright. Featuring Phoenix himself as Pink (complete with his ridiculous pink "RYU" sweater from Gyakuten Saiban 3), Miles Edgeworth as the prosecutor, and (possibly) Wendy Oldbag as "Mother."
Yeah...I'm still trying to figure out better analogues to all the characters. Phoenix, Edgeworth and the Judge are all given - and I've almost totally decided on Dolores Willow as The Wife (though maybe there are sharper tongues to be seen - like Franziska von Karma from the upcoming "Justice for All").

We Remember The Frohman
from the desk of
Corwin Brence
We run quickly in the other direction.
I had a better start to this work week than usual. I snapped into action pretty damn quick, grabbing drinks and taking orders at top priority. Poor Rose in the kitchen barely had time to blink with the rate the orders were coming in. Though I suppose it would have been a bit less chaotic if Samantha weren't home sick. Argh.
I played Phoenix Wright so much yesterday that I almost completely wore out the battery on my DS. That's from a complete charge. In between playing and charging, I also found time to play Ys Eternal Complete (which I also just obtained and applied the English patch to - it's quite fun). If you've ever wanted to get into the Ys games, Ys Eternal is the way to go.
Tune: Hebereke NSF soundtrack

Enjoy the Silence
from the desk of
Corwin Brence
Been on a demo-downloading spree ever since Prey came out. Age of Empires 3 ("MUSKETEER'ED!!") is particularly enjoyable, despite the fact that I don't exactly like RTS games.
Today's Sunday (really early, anyway) which means I'll be dealing with another news drought. Better make this entry extra juicy, eh?
So I've still got this $20 check from my cousins' family across the country. I've been thinking of ways I could use it...We Love Katamari? Other such cheap games? DS? GBA? XBox? PC? Something different entirely?
Hopefully something that'll last longer than five hours...I'm not sure I want to buy HL2 Episode One quite yet.
It seems today is the day I get my paycheck at work - so I better actually go to work and pick it up, even though I don't have to work today (hooray for Sundays...). Since Mom's probably going to take me out to EB Games or someplace anyway (in addition to cashing my other check), I could always have her park for about 30 seconds so I can grab my paycheck from Avamere (and make sure to say hello to any wandering residents on my way through).
I rearranged my room today. Where there once was a dresser, is now my computer desk. Where my computer desk formerly stood is now the vantage point for my CD racks. "Trash Can Corner" is now where my dresser is (my silly outhouse-biker lamp sits atop it, next to my two game consoles). And the trash can is right next to my desk, for easy access to chuck empty cans into (and wrapping plastic for games).
And I decided to mount my world map on the wall again. Hey, now I can find Uzbekistan on it. And figure out what the flag of Papua New Guinea looks like.
Hey, I just needed a way to slip "Uzbekistan" in the blog.

I'd like to express my hatred for timed demos.
I've recently picked up the demo for Micro Machines V4, the latest in the famed mini racing series by Codemasters. The game came equipped with three battle levels for single or multiplayer use. I figured that'd keep me occupied for at least half an hour.
That was fifteen minutes ago.
It seems that, in addition to the limit on tracks and options, Codemasters opted to put a ten minute time limit on the demo. The game automatically boots you out when this time limit expires.
Just when I was getting a hang of the controls.
Now, a time limit would make sense if this was a full-featured product - but for a minimally-equipped demo version, it's downright absurd. It doesn't make me want to buy the game any more, that's for sure.

Sunday, Monday, Tuesday!
from the desk of
Corwin Brence
Hey hey hey. Here it is: the Sunday update.
Most of today was spent wondering when the hell I'm going to get over this cold. A cold? In June? As if...
I discovered today that crime pays (sorta). In goofing around with Oblivion and creating a mass-murderer character (stealth, marksmanship, and all kinds of sneaky abilites), I was "recruited" by the Dark Brotherhood of Sithis. And all that for stabbing some guy in the butt from within the shadows of his own storage cupboard.
As of today, I've got 4 active characters in Oblivion. Richter, my "ninja" (stealth, acrobatics, athletics, and hand-to-hand combat); Adrianna, my all-around mage (slings fireballs and cures most diseases with a mere wave of the wrist); Elliot, my "tank" (heavy armor, blades, and armorer); and my assassin, Nikolai. I'm on the Weasel server if anybody wants to join my guild. *silly grin*
I also went and got Dad a Father's Day gift with Mom. We were going to Radio Shack to pick up a new microphone for my computer (I needed a nice loud one), but we ended up getting something more: an Xmods RC car kit (the '57 Firebird) and a body kit expansion for it too.
After twiddling around with a little wire-tie from the microphone I bought, I ended up making a neat little pistol from it. Alas, my webcam doesn't work yet (need to find the damn software CD first)...
I also got $20 in the mail from my dear cousins. Thanks!

That's what's been going through my head ever since I played that fan-patch of Gyakuten Saiban 3's first case. I decided that I wanted a DS just so I could play Phoenix Wright (dammit).
And now, the time has come that I buy it. The Japanese version, anyway. But hey, thanks to that video I saw on YouTube, I know how to access the English language version (I made absolutely sure I got the right one - the one with the language switch on it).
So yeah...the game I would not shut up about...may actually be shut up about for the moment. At least, until it arrives on my doorstep.
Let's all scientifically shout "OBJECTION!"

So here's the latest happenings.
The quest to run the awesome stuff on the computer continues, as I redownload my copy of Beyond Good & Evil from Fileplanet. I am still missing my graphics and sound editors, but that ought to be really easy to do, since I've got uTorrent back.
Yesterday, however, I didn't spend much time on the computer. I visited my cousin for his graduation party. Haven't seen him in a while. Shot silly-string at him (and the bushes). Met parts of my family that I haven't seen in quite a while. Did stuff. Attempted (and failed) to belch the theme from Batman.
And god damn it, I still don't know if I get Tuesday off. I damn well better.

For Justice!
from the desk of
Corwin Brence
As you may have gleaned from the "Graf Zahl is a Dick" post below, I am a firm believer in justice. If there is a wrongdoing, I enjoy seeing the criminal be brought to justice and (presumably) learn the error of their ways.
Well, here is a page that details such a scenario as it plays out, almost in complete real time.
What's the skinny, though?
A New Yorker forgets to pick up his cellphone on the way out of a taxi. Oh well. That happens every day, right? Somebody else finds it, and instead of honorably returning it and claiming the reward that its original owner had offered, they decided to steal it.
Thanks to T-Mobile's logging features, our protagonist ("Evan") picks up an AIM screen name for the suspected thief, as well as several photos taken with the p hone's camera, and a link to a few MySpace accounts (owned by the thief and their acquaintances).
You'd think that'd learn 'em. But it didn't.
Like all people that are trying to hide something, they sent threatening emails to "Evan". Oooh. The horror. Email threats are about as powerful as throwing fun-snaps at people instead of grenades. Just look at what Jack Thompson is slinging around.
But I digress...
The threats are still going back and forth. "Evan" has already reported this to the NYPD, as well as T-Mobile (who is going to stop service to the phone very soon). And the guy that keeps sending the emails, just like all people that are trying to hide something, seems to be contradicting himself.
Here's to hoping the criminals responsible are punished. As of the last post, "Evan" has secured all necessary evidence that the responsible party(s) had possession of the phone. And the driver of the cab the phone was left in is still not proven innocent (perhaps he sold the phone to these people).
How will this story come to a close? Who can be sure?
Tune: Tangerine Dream - Cloudburst Flight

UPS has rescheduled the shipment of my computer. Instead of it arriving on Thursday, it's arriving on Friday. I'm not sure at all what time they intend on getting it to my house - but here's hoping they decide to drop it off after 12:00 noon, so Dad will be here to pick it up.
The last thing I need is to schedule a date to go to UPS and pick up an entire computer.
I'm not so angry about the date - I just wish I knew what time it'd be here.

The Tomato Trifecta Is Now In Effect
from the desk of
Corwin Brence
If another tomato product attacks me this week, I'm gonna owe you all a picture of a hot girl or something.
Today at lunch, I was getting tomato juice for a resident. Before I knew it, the tray with all the glasses on it tipped and fell on the floor - and the glass of tomato juice had emptied itself all over my pants and apron. I was able to get most of it off with a rag, but I had to launder both articles of clothing when I got home.
And after dinner, I was taking some garbage to the dumpster out back, when the bag split open and a single container of ketchup got all over my pants. I did laundry again.
So what's next? Is some dirty old guy going to heave a tomato at me? Will I trip and land in the soup? Will Dad's spaghetti sauce explode in my face?
If any of that decides to happen this week...expect a good picture.

So we had some Chinese food for dinner today. As usual, Mom went all the way to Hillsboro to order at the Dancing Dragon, which is by and far the greatest Chinese restaurant in the state of Oregon. And of course, we got fortune cookies. And who better to analyze them than - you guessed it - Snake and Otacon?
Yeah. Most generic fortune ever. I look forward to the day when my fortune says something negative for once. Or something so completely off the wall that I'm forced to expel several ounces of pork fried rice out of my nose.

Of course, I did have his permission, and I was well aware at the time how much debt it would put me in while I help pay the bills.
What did I buy? A new computer. Fancy processor. SLI video cards. Lots of memory and disk space. DVD burner. Fancy sound card. I know I'm gonna be happy.
Not sure how long it takes Dell to make their systems though...and I made absolutely sure to use their new "No Pre-Installed Software" option. That ought to at least make things a bit easier on me when I get to tweaking and fixing it for my needs.
What of my current box, though? Well, it's going back to its original owner - Mom. After all, her current system (a dated 933 MHz running Windows 98) can barely run World of Warcraft, and God knows that's the only game she plays.
Happy trails, Weevil3.5 - may WeevilIV succeed you.
Tune: Tangerine Dream - Exit
Game: Pokemon Ruby (don't ask)
